The sad and tragic case of embattered Ohio middle school teacher John Freshwater took yet another turn for the worse yesterday as the Knox County Small Pleas Court denied his request for further hearings in his case to reinstate his employment after he was wrongfully and rudely disinstated from his employment in the Mount Vernon School District.
This is just the latest in a series of setbacks for the innocent and mild-mannered alternative science teacher, beginning with the completely ludicrous accusations in 2008 that he was "wrongfully" teaching Creationism and Intelligent Design in his classroom, and somehow "harming" the "well-being" of his "students" by branding crucifixes on their arms with a Van de Graaff generator.
Yes, the accusations were true, but I have and continue to maintain that the actions were not wrong. Dr. Freshwater was merely exercising his Constitutional right of academic freedom by teaching alternative science in his classroom.
The activist judges may have won this small battle, but if I know John Freshwater, he will continue fighting. He will take his case to the Appeals Courts, the President of Ohio, or even the United States Supreme Court if he has to. And even if he loses, he still wins - at being a martyr for alternative science.

In The Case of California vs. Academic Freedom, Freedom Emerges Victoriously
In a landmark out-of-court decision handed down by an out-of-court judge, as I can only assume these cases are handled, the American Freedom Alliance has won a flawless victory against the state-run California Science Center.
This out-of-court settlement, which I can only imagine followed a dramatic out-of-court proceeding reminiscent of the Scopes Monkey trial
or whatever case it was in Twelve Angry Men
, requires the state-run California Science Center to pay a sum of no less than 1.5 billion imaginary dollars to the allied freedom fighters at the American Freedom Alliance and their allies at the Discovery Institute
.
The case began in 2009, when the state-run California
Science Center frivolously and unfairly cancelled an alternative-science
science event sponsored by the AFA and/or the Discovery Institute due to the frivolous and unfair reason that the AFA and/or Discovery Institute was claiming the Science Center as an endorser of the alternative-science event, and thus would hithertoforely be seen as an advocate of alternative science in perpetuity throughout the universe

In case you don't speak legal mumbo and/or jumbo, I'll summarize thisly: the state-run California
was anti-freedom so they got sued by Freedom.
And freedom WON!
This is not just a victory for the cdesign proponents at the Discovery Institute
; or alternative science and alternative science advocates in general - which it is. This is a victory for Freedom - and, by extension, abstract concepts everywhere.
Congratulations to freedom, hubris, liberty, happiness, melancholy, and rhetoric for your well-deserved victory against the state-run state of California!

Academic Freedom Under Attack In The White Mountain State

is a perfectly valid scientific explanation for the irreducible complexity of modern life.However, a new anti-freedom screed by Nashua Telegraph columnist and self-described "Granite Geek" David Brooks brutally attacks these new proposed laws. Worse, Brooks makes no attempt to hide his pro-science, anti-freedom bias:
Two lawmakers are trying to pry open New Hampshire science classrooms to allow, or even require, the teaching of creationism.And, of course, the National Center for Science Indoctrination is in full support of the Granite Geek's freedom-hating.
In case you're wondering (since this column is called Granite Geek, you shouldn't), I think it's a terrible idea.

All for the so-called wrong-doing of teaching alternative science such as Creationism and Intelligent Design in his science classroom, as we reported last week on this very blog.
A tragesty of justice indeed!
Fear not, Dr. Freshwater! The Math Skeptic stands behind you in your appeals - both to ignorance and the Ohio School Board - and I hope that you will be back in the classroom soon, preaching the alternative truth and burning crosses into students' forearms, as any good science teacher should! This is not merely about science, it is about freedom.

Ohio Teacher Under Attack For Teaching Alternative Science

This shocking news just crossed my desk, and needless to say I was shocked - SHOCKED - by this shocking news!
John Freshwater, a mild-mannered and completely innocent Ohio middle school teacher, has been sued by parents of one of his students for the alleged crime of teaching perfectly valid alternative science to his eighth-grade students.
Among the allegedly "objectionable" alternative science lessons taught by Freshwater were Creationism, Intelligent Design, the Inherent Faultiness of Evolution, and How To Burn Crosses In Your Arm With a Van de Graaff Generator. The anti-freedom plaintiffs in the lawsuit are suing both Freshwater and the Ohio school district, and are attempting to use the power of activist judgmanship to get the poor innocent teacher fired.
This is an outrage!
This entire case is nothing more than premeditated character assassination by the evolutionists, persecuting a poor embattered teacher for teaching perfectly valid science topics. Creationism and Intelligent Design are widely-recognized scientific-like theories backed by mountains of hypothetical evidence. And burning a cross on a student's arm with a Van de Graaff generator teaches an important lesson in not sticking your arm in a Van de Graaff generator.
If this outrageous case goes to trial, it will be the Scopes Monkey Trial of the 21st Century. Only this time it is the monkeys who are doing the prosecuting.

A Tragesty of Justice in Pennsylvania!

U.S. District Judge John E. Jones has just ruled against the teaching of alternate scientific theories in the landmark Kitzmiller v. Dover case. As you know, The Math Skeptic has had high hopes for this case as part of our "wedge strategy" to insert alternative math theories into the classroom, so this is a huge setback indeed.
Judge Jones issued this utterly ludicrous ruling based on the positively ridiculous notion that Intelligent Design Theory is religious:
It's simply a ludicrous notion. Any believer in an omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent God could never believe that such an all-powerful being would be so thoroughly incompetent as to intentionally guide evolution into all of its mass extinctions and dead ends and malicious mutations and the utter cruelty of natural selection. So if it's not God doing the guiding, it's not religious, thus, what the cdesign proponents are proponing is not religion! Case closed!
And, of course, organizations such as the National Center for Science Indoctrination were fawning over themselves in praise for the decision to ban freedom from the classroom. I suppose I can't blame them, of course. They and the rest of the scientific community are so deep in the pocket of Big Digit that they can't possibly support academic freedom in the maths OR sciences. We alternative math and/or science proponents are just tiny Davids facing a giant Goliath of the scientifo-numeric cabal.
Which wasn't meant as a religious statement, just to be clear. I was merely using a well-known anecdote, that happens to come from the Old Testament, to illustrate my point.

The concept of intelligent design (hereinafter “ID”), in its current form, came into existence after the Edwards case was decided in 1987. For the reasons that follow, we conclude that the religious nature of ID would be readily apparent to an objective observer, adult or child.Really, Judge? Really? Well I am an objective observer AND an adult or child, and I don't see the religiousity inherent in the claim that a supernatural being guided evolution every step of the way!
We initially note that John Haught, a theologian who testified as an expert witness for Plaintiffs and who has written extensively on the subject of evolution and religion, succinctly explained to the Court that the argument for ID is not a new scientific argument, but is rather an old religious argument for the existence of God.
